A Tryst with the Tibetan Medicines at Smanla Guest House

I had specially chosen Smanla Guest House apart from Goji Villa for my stay at Leh. It would probably be the best place away from the hustle and bustle of the market. Only the beautiful location and views do not make it the best place to stay, but also the expertise of the owner in Tibetan medicines makes it an interesting place to stay. So, if don’t want simply roam around Leh-Ladakh and spend your time in learning something, then call up Amchi Tsewang now and you would be all set to go in search of medicinal plants in the high hills of this desert land.

The blissful mornings at Smanla Guest House

During my conversation with Amchi Tsewang Smanla, who is the owner of this amazing place, I learnt about the Tibetan medicines. It is an ancient medicinal system formed of various natural cures found in the Himalayas of Central Asia, Tibetal Plateau, China and the Indian Subcontinent. The first original text in this medicine was written in around 4AD in Sanskrit. It is also an integral part of tantric Buddhism. The medicines are utmost effective in many of currently prevailing problems. Dr. Tsewang is also a founder of the Yuthong Foundation that works for the development of Tibetan Medicine practice in Ladakh.

Dr. Tsewang also told me that he had conducted a seminar on Tibetan medicine at Smanla Guest House while a few people showed their interest in knowing more about it. Later on, the people had also opted for the check up and the treatment.  The seminars and workshops on Tibetan medicine are regularly conducted for the interested guests. They also conduct Tibetan Medicine Tours where you get the chance to explore the interiors of Ladakh along with a Tibetan Medicine Expert. Learning about various medicinal herbs in the Himalayas is really a magical experience. The tour also includes a short meditation retreat under the guidance of the expert Buddhist monks in the Himalayas.

Apart from having an expert owner the guest house is also the best place for employees or staff get-together. The seminar hall at the guest house serves as the best place for conducting any kind of workshops or presentations. The spacious and elegant rooms are also suitable for the executives. The huge dining hall also caters to the need of staff lunch and dinner. The cooks here are also expert in cooking a variety of cuisines including traditional Ladakhi meals. While at Smanla you can be assured to get the best service for every need of yours.

The families can enjoy a luxury stay here while devouring the view of the Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa right from their windows. During my stay a family of four seemed to have enjoyed sitting in the balcony and on the terrace for their morning tea. Even the kids loved playing around the small garden located at the centre of the property. The common room decorated in Ladakhi style is also another place for family get-together and socialization. The cozy rooms are even perfectly suitable for the couples.

The most mesmerizing view of the snowcapped Himalayan hills from the terrace of Smanla Guest Hous soothes your mind and mood early in the morning.  I loved sitting under the mild sunlight and reading my favourite travel magazine while sipping on the hot Ladakhi butter tea. Besides being the best in providing every facility, it also has a feasible location in the town of Leh. While Shanti Stupa is just a few minutes away, Leh market can be reached just by a straight walk or drive from the Changspa road where this guest house is located. It is not at all difficult to reach Smanla Guest House even if you are visiting the town for the first time.
